History tends to get written in terms of “the” individual remarkable person. We learn about the inventor of the lightbulb, the scientist who discovered penicillin, the founder and CEO of Apple. We focus on “geniuses”who make great leaps in human understanding, seeing them as doing so by themselves (and there are other characteristics of the above that are obvious, too.)
