Dear School of Thought readers,
Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation to crack something open.
Recently, I had such a conversation with my friend
, co-founder of the Source School in Maine and an awesome thought partner. We are getting into this jam of regular check-ins in our very aligned work and thinking and listening research. I so appreciate getting to process with her.And in our latest convo, we were talking about learning, connection, growth ~ and somewhere along the way, we landed on the question of scale.
It made me realize: I’ve been circling around this idea for a long time without quite naming it. In all of the innovative education, research, and start up spaces I’ve had the opportunity to be part of, the question has always seemed to slowly or quickly arrive at: How do we scale this up?
It’s like the goal is always…
Bigger. Faster. More.
But what if that’s not the only (or even the best) question?
That’s what today’s post is about. It’s maybe a new way of thinking about scale, through the lens of People-Based Learning, inspired by my generative chat with Jen.
Are there things you are trying to scale up or scale down? I’d love to hear about them.
As always, thank you for thinking alongside me.
More soon,
